All I have seen are opinions such as \u201conly hold a property for X years.\u201d Here, I propose a simple process for deciding whether to sell or hold.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">First, what should you base your decision on? That\u2019s simple:\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biggerpockets.com\/blog\/mastering-your-real-estate-investing-goals\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">your investment goal<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Financial Freedom<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The goal of real estate investing is\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biggerpockets.com\/blog\/money-480\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">financial freedom<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. However, this requires more than just replacing your current income. Financial freedom requires an income that enables you to maintain your current standard of living for the rest of your life. To maintain your standard of living, you need an income that outpaces inflation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Each trip to the store costs you more for the same basket of goods. If your rental income doesn\u2019t outpace inflation, you won\u2019t have the extra money to purchase the same items.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">This means the decision to sell or hold depends on how the property has performed in the past.
