{"id":12357,"date":"2024-07-06T13:53:17","date_gmt":"2024-07-06T13:53:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/imsfund.com\/?p=12357"},"modified":"2024-07-06T13:53:17","modified_gmt":"2024-07-06T13:53:17","slug":"elevenlabs-voice-clones-judy-garland-james-dean-with-ai","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/imsfund.com\/index.php\/2024\/07\/06\/elevenlabs-voice-clones-judy-garland-james-dean-with-ai\/","title":{"rendered":"ElevenLabs Voice-Clones Judy Garland, James Dean, with AI"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Judy Garland passed away <a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/biography\/Judy-Garland\">55<\/a> years ago \u2014 but put any document, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/leadership\/how-to-write-and-publish-your-first-book-as-an-entrepreneur\/464546\">e-book<\/a>, or file into a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/i-tried-3-ai-headshot-generators-1-might-work-for-linkedin\/470065\">AI<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/i-tried-airchat-silicon-valleys-trendy-social-media-app\/472917\">app<\/a>, and her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/openai-demos-voice-engine-but-not-ready-for-wide-release\/471965\">voice<\/a> will be what you hear reading to you.<\/p>\n<p>Text-to-speech AI startup ElevenLabs <a href=\"https:\/\/elevenlabs.io\/blog\/iconic-voices\">announced<\/a> on Tuesday that its free Reader App uses AI cloning to replicate the unique voices of Garland, James Dean, Burt Reynolds and Sir Laurence Olivier.<\/p>\n<p>The app, which <a href=\"https:\/\/elevenlabs.io\/text-reader\">came out<\/a> last week on iOS (with preregistration open for Android), takes any PDF file, article or text and transforms it into a voiceover that sounds like one of the iconic voices \u2014 complete with emotion and contextual understanding.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s exciting to see our mother&#8217;s voice available to the countless millions of people who love her,&#8221; Liza Minnelli, daughter of Judy Garland and representative of the Garland Estate, said in the press release. Minnelli added, &#8220;Our family believes that this will bring new fans to Mama.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><div class=\"ast-oembed-container \" style=\"height: 100%;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"ElevenLabs Iconic Voices - Judy Garland\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Zo5-rhYOlNk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>ElevenLabs worked with the estates of the late stars to develop the technology.<\/p>\n<p>The startup envisions users listening to <i>Sherlock Homes<\/i> in Olivier&#8217;s voice or <i>The Wonderful Wizard of Oz<\/i> in Garland&#8217;s voice.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" class=\"lazyload\" loading=\"lazy\" role=\"presentation\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.entrepreneur.com\/images\/misc\/1720200122_Judy-Garland-GettyImages-517285734.jpg?width=1000\" style=\"height:841px; width:1000px\" width=\"1000\" height=\"841\"\/><i><sup>Judy Garland in the 1939 movie The Wizard of Oz directed by Victor Fleming. Credit: Getty Images<\/sup><\/i><\/p>\n<p>Voice-cloning isn&#8217;t a new application of AI, and some of its use cases can be problematic. For example, audio cloning has been used to attempt to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/growing-a-business\/how-generative-ai-is-fueling-fake-news-and-online-fraud\/469006\">scam<\/a> people out of money and personal information.<\/p>\n<p><b>Related: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/scammers-are-using-ai-to-clone-your-loved-ones-voice\/448718\"><b>Scammers Are Using AI to Clone Your Loved One&#8217;s Voice<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p>ElevenLabs users can easily create audio <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/google-says-election-ads-with-deepfakes-must-be-labeled\/476533\">deepfakes<\/a>, or realistic-sounding impersonations of someone&#8217;s voice. In January 2023, the startup <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/elevenlabsio\/status\/1620443097057607681\">acknowledged<\/a> that its technology had been used &#8220;for malicious purposes&#8221; and decided to put voice-cloning behind a paywall.<\/p>\n<p>ElevenLabs&#8217; <a href=\"https:\/\/elevenlabs.io\/safety\">safety page<\/a>, as of this writing, discloses that the company moderates all content through automated and human review, traces content back to anyone misusing it and reports illegal activity to law enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>Outside of ElevenLabs, the ethicality of voice-cloning has recently come under scrutiny.
