Each group gave a different number as the threshold to be rich; the older the group, the larger the magic number for wealth.<\/p>\n<p>Gen Z (which <a href=\"https:\/\/content.schwab.com\/web\/retail\/public\/about-schwab\/schwab_modern_wealth_survey_2024_findings.pdf\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\">Charles Schwab defined<\/a> as born from 1997 to 2002) thinks it takes $1.2 million to be wealthy, while millennials (1981 to 1996) put the number at $2.2 million, Gen X (1965 to 1980) at $2.7 million, and boomers (1948 to 1964) at $2.8 million.<\/p>\n<p><b>Related: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/monthly-costs-of-the-10-most-expensive-cities-in-us-guide\/469488\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\">Here&#8217;s How Much It Costs to Live in America&#8217;s 10 Most Expensive Cities<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The new $2.5 million average is $300,000 higher than the $2.2 million average survey participants gave last year. The higher number could reflect rising inflation and economic fears.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The notion of wealth combines both numbers and emotions,&#8221; Charles Schwab managing director of financial planning Rob Williams <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2024-08-21\/how-money-do-i-need-to-be-rich-americans-say-it-takes-2-5-million\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\">told Bloomberg.<\/a> &#8220;The jump from $2.2 million to $2.5 million demonstrates both sides \u2014 the cost of living is rising, as are, it&#8217;s likely, most Americans&#8217; more emotion-fueled views of what it takes to be wealthy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Wealth aside, the survey also looked at the average net worth Americans think it takes to be &#8220;financially comfortable.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><b>Related:<\/b> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/single-gold-bar-price-hits-1-million-first-time-in-history\/478713\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\">A Single Gold Bar Is Worth $1 Million for the First Time in History<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Once again, the numbers were divided among younger and older generations.
