In fact, a new survey from the online career resources platform <a href=\"https:\/\/resumegenius.com\/\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\">Resume Genius<\/a> found that 48% of job seekers either lied or have considered lying on their resumes.<\/p>\n<p>In the <a href=\"https:\/\/resumegenius.com\/blog\/resume-help\/lying-on-resume\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\">2024 Lying on Resumes Report<\/a>, based on an <a href=\"https:\/\/resumegenius.com\/blog\/job-hunting\/job-seeker-insights-survey#lying\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\">original survey of 1,000 managers<\/a>, 29% of those surveyed admitted to lying on their resume. While 14% admitted to blatantly lying, 15% said they&#8217;d told small lies or made minor exaggerations.<\/p>\n<p><b>Related:<\/b> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/resume-format-he-got-half-a-million-in-compensation-at-meta\/473527\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\">A Software Engineer Shares the R\u00e9sum\u00e9 He&#8217;s Used Since College That Got Him a $500,000 Job at Meta\u2014Plus Offers at TikTok and LinkedIn<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our findings show that resume dishonesty is a common temptation, especially when job seekers feel pressured to appear more qualified or conceal career gaps,&#8221; says <a href=\"https:\/\/resumegenius.com\/author\/geoff-scott\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\">Geoffrey Scott<\/a>, senior hiring manager at Resume Genius.<\/p>\n<p>The two most common lies were to cover up a career gap (31%) and exaggerate the length of time employed in a job (30%). Meanwhile, lying about tech (24%) and language skills (22%) were also common.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the most dishonest admitted to making up entire companies and positions.<\/p>\n<p>Men were 1.5 times more likely to lie than women\u2014usually over job titles\u2014and of the generations, Gen Z were the biggest liars of the bunch. 56% admitted they&#8217;ve or considered lying on a resume, followed by Millennials (50%), Gen X (40%), and Boomers (37%).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/resumegenius.com\/author\/eva\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\">Eva Chan<\/a>, lead career expert at Resume Genius, says that with today&#8217;s automated systems, job seekers may feel like they have to lie to get ahead, but it isn&#8217;t a smart move.<\/p>\n<p><b>Related:<\/b> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/employers-can-tell-if-you-used-chatgpt-to-write-your-resume\/478444\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\">ChatGPT Is Writing Lots of Job Applications, But Companies Are Quickly Catching On.
