{"id":13769,"date":"2024-11-01T03:57:10","date_gmt":"2024-11-01T03:57:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/imsfund.com\/?p=13769"},"modified":"2024-11-01T03:57:10","modified_gmt":"2024-11-01T03:57:10","slug":"microsoft-ai-business-could-pass-10-billion-next-quarter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/imsfund.com\/index.php\/2024\/11\/01\/microsoft-ai-business-could-pass-10-billion-next-quarter\/","title":{"rendered":"Microsoft: AI Business Could Pass $10 Billion Next Quarter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>AI is an expensive business, costing upwards of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/anthropic-ceo-ai-will-cost-10-billion-to-train-by-2025\/476750\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\">$100 million simply to train<\/a> a new model.<\/p>\n<p>At Microsoft, though, a <a href=\"https:\/\/news.microsoft.com\/apac\/2024\/04\/10\/microsoft-to-invest-us2-9-billion-in-ai-and-cloud-infrastructure-in-japan-while-boosting-the-nations-skills-research-and-cybersecurity\/#:~:text=Picture%20left%20to%20right:%20Fumio,Microsoft%20Japan%20President%20Miki%20Tsusaka.\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\">multi-billion dollar<\/a> investment in AI appears to be paying off: CEO Satya Nadella said on a <a href=\"https:\/\/view.officeapps.live.com\/op\/view.aspx?src=https:\/\/microsoft.com\/en-us\/investor\/earnings\/FY-2025-Q1\/Document\/DownloadDocument\/59\/TranscriptQandAFY25q1.docx\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\">quarterly earnings call<\/a> on Wednesday that Microsoft&#8217;s AI business &#8220;is on track to surpass an annual revenue run rate of $10 billion next quarter&#8221; and become &#8220;the fastest business in our history to reach this milestone.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.paddle.com\/resources\/revenue-run-rate\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\">annual revenue run rate<\/a> projects revenue over a period of time based on previous revenue.<\/p>\n<p><b>Related: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/microsofts-next-power-source-for-ai-data-centers-is-nuclear\/480257\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\">Will It Take Nuclear Power to Sustain AI? Microsoft Is Betting on It.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Microsoft has invested about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2024\/10\/30\/microsoft-cfo-says-openai-investment-will-cut-into-profit-this-quarter.html\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\">$14 billion<\/a> into OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT. It has also made several <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2024\/09\/17\/microsoft-blackrock-form-gaiip-to-invest-in-ai-data-centers-energy.html\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\">multi-billion dollar<\/a> AI commitments, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/microsofts-next-power-source-for-ai-data-centers-is-nuclear\/480257\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\">a deal<\/a> to reopen Three Mile Island, a nuclear power plant near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" class=\"lazyload\" loading=\"lazy\" role=\"presentation\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.entrepreneur.com\/images\/misc\/1730404436_Nadella-GettyImages-1921159214.jpg?width=1000\" style=\"height:703px; width:1000px\" width=\"1000\" height=\"703\"\/><i><sup>Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. Photo by Ethan Miller\/Getty Images<\/sup><\/i><\/p>\n<p>Nadella also pointed out on the call, which went over earnings for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/investor\/earnings\/fy-2025-q1\/press-release-webcast\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\">the first quarter of fiscal year 2025<\/a>, that Microsoft Cloud revenue was up 22% year over year, growing to $38.9 billion for the quarter ending September 30. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/investor\/earnings\/fy-2025-q1\/press-release-webcast\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\">Revenue overall<\/a> increased 16% to $65.6 billion.<\/p>\n<p>At Microsoft, &#8220;AI-driven transformation is changing work, work artifacts, and workflow across every role, function, and business process,&#8221; Nadella said.<\/p>\n<p>Though Microsoft&#8217;s earnings were better than expected, the company&#8217;s shares <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2024\/10\/31\/microsoft-stock-has-worst-day-in-two-years-on-disappointing-forecast.html\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\">fell by more than 5%<\/a> on Thursday because its predicted cloud revenue growth was less than expected.<\/p>\n<p><b>Related: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/how-much-are-ceos-paid-highest-chief-executive-pay-packages\/475055\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\">These CEOs Have the Biggest Pay Packages in the U.S., According to a New Report<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Nadella was well-compensated for leading Microsoft: He received <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2024\/10\/24\/microsoft-ceo-nadella-requested-pay-reduction-after-security-incidents.html\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\">a pay increase<\/a> of over $30 million for the fiscal year ending June 30, resulting in an overall pay of $79.1 million compared to $48.5 million a year prior.<\/p>\n<p>Nadella&#8217;s compensation would have been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2024\/10\/24\/microsoft-ceo-nadella-requested-pay-reduction-after-security-incidents.html#:~:text=Microsoft%20gave%20CEO%20Satya%20Nadella,for%20a%20series%20of%20cyberattacks.\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\">$5.5 million higher<\/a>, but he asked for it to be lower following a series of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2024\/10\/28\/satya_nadella_security\/\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\">cybersecurity breaches<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Microsoft went through layoffs affecting <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2024\/01\/25\/microsoft-lays-off-1900-employees-in-activision-blizzard-and-xbox-divisions\/\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\">nearly 1,900 people<\/a> in its gaming division in January.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft now has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/microsoft\/\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\">about 228,000<\/a> employees globally.<\/p>\n<p><b>Related: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/microsoft-salesforce-compete-for-sales-service-ai-agents\/481651\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\">Microsoft Strikes Back at Salesforce, Announces New AI Agents That Can Take Over Finance, Sales, and Service Tasks<\/a>\n  <\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/microsoft-ai-business-could-pass-10-billion-next-quarter\/482215\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>AI is an expensive business, costing upwards of $100 million simply to train a new model.
