It&#8217;s Complicated, Experts Say<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Uchida said he was taking a 50% pay cut and the company is cutting its production capacity globally by 20%.<\/p>\n<p>In 2022, Uchida made <a href=\"https:\/\/www.japantimes.co.jp\/news\/2023\/06\/30\/business\/top-auto-execs-japan-paid-less-us\/\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\">\u00a5673m<\/a> (around $4.5 million), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/worklife\/article\/20230925-uaw-auto-strike-why-us-automotive-ceos-make-more-than-global-competition\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\">per the BBC.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Nissan will restructure its business to become leaner and more resilient,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>Uchida isn&#8217;t the first CEO to reduce their pay when business is down.<\/p>\n<p>In 2023, Zoom CEO Eric Yuan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/zoom-ceo-eric-yuan-takes-98-pay-cut-amid-layoffs\/444623\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\">cut his salary by 98%<\/a> amid a layoff announcement.
