{"id":13856,"date":"2024-11-08T10:49:11","date_gmt":"2024-11-08T10:49:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/imsfund.com\/?p=13856"},"modified":"2024-11-08T10:49:11","modified_gmt":"2024-11-08T10:49:11","slug":"fed-cuts-rates-by-0-25-ey-chief-economist-says-more-coming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/imsfund.com\/index.php\/2024\/11\/08\/fed-cuts-rates-by-0-25-ey-chief-economist-says-more-coming\/","title":{"rendered":"Fed Cuts Rates By 0.25%: EY Chief Economist Says More Coming"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>On Thursday, the Federal Reserve&#8217;s Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federalreserve.gov\/newsevents\/pressreleases\/monetary20241107a.htm\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\">announced<\/a> that it would lower the federal funds rate by 25 basis points (bps), or 0.25%, because of &#8220;somewhat elevated&#8221; inflation and an unemployment rate that &#8220;moved up but remains low.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The rate is now 4.5% to 4.75%, down from 4.75% to 5%. A lower federal funds rate, or borrowing rate that banks charge each other, means lower borrowing costs on credit cards and personal loans \u2014 so there&#8217;s a ripple effect that could directly affect your wallet. Banks decide individually how to respond to rate cuts.<\/p>\n<p>The news aligned with analyst expectations.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We continue to expect the Fed to ease policy by 25bps at every meeting through June next year amid resilient but moderating growth and cooling labor market trends,&#8221; EY chief economist Gregory Daco told Entrepreneur in an emailed statement ahead of the Fed&#8217;s announcement.<\/p>\n<p>The Fed previously cut rates <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/the-fed-cut-interest-rates-a-half-point-how-it-impacts-you\/480061\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\">by half a point<\/a> in September, in its first reduction in four years. The next FOMC meeting, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federalreserve.gov\/monetarypolicy\/fomccalendars.htm\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\">scheduled<\/a> for December 17 through 18, is the last one of the year; Daco, as well as EY colleague and senior economist Lydia Boussour, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/ey-senior-economist-stage-is-set-for-rate-cuts\/478840\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\">both expect<\/a> another rate cut of 25 bps then.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" class=\"lazyload\" loading=\"lazy\" role=\"presentation\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.entrepreneur.com\/images\/misc\/1731007571_Powell0GettyImages-2172045587.jpg?width=1000\" style=\"height:667px; width:1000px\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\"\/><sup><i>Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell. Morgan Wealth Management, also told Entrepreneur in September that the 50 bps cut in that month &#8220;creates some breathing room to go at a slower (or every-other-meeting) pace&#8221; for subsequent meetings.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cmegroup.com\/markets\/interest-rates\/cme-fedwatch-tool.html\" rel=\"follow noopener\" target=\"_self\">CME FedWatch Tool<\/a>, a measure of the latest probabilities of FOMC rate changes, agreed with Daco and Ausenbaugh&#8217;s predictions of a slower rate cut pace.
