Initially, your contractor will most likely challenge the firing as a breach of contract<\/strong>. This is precisely why having a record of how they actually breached the contract agreement first is key.<strong> Some things to consider as you document their misdeeds:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Did they ever not show up when they were supposed to?<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Were non-agreed materials used?<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Did they consistently stick to the schedule?<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Did they go over budget?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Don\u2019t dig yourself into a deeper hole. <strong>After you have compiled sufficient evidence of the contractor\u2019s poor job, fire them immediately so that you are not continuously paying for bad or mediocre work.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3\/>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"File_a_Bond_Insurance_Claim\"\/>File a Bond Insurance Claim<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Before proceeding, note that you can only file a claim if the contractor is bonded.<\/strong> Therefore, you should only work with bonded and insured contractors for large projects.<\/p>\n<p>You can reclaim the money you already spent by communicating with the contractor\u2019s insurance company. <strong>Even the threat of filing a claim often persuades wayward contractors to finish the work. <\/strong>But do it properly! You never know when you need to escalate to the real thing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3\/>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"File_a_Complaint_to_the_State_Licensing_Board\"\/>File a Complaint to the State Licensing Board<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"\/><\/h2>\n<p><strong>If the contractor is licensed, you can file a claim to the state board if needed.<\/strong> No contracting company wants this to happen.
