{"id":15195,"date":"2025-02-26T04:09:53","date_gmt":"2025-02-26T04:09:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/imsfund.com\/?p=15195"},"modified":"2025-02-26T04:09:53","modified_gmt":"2025-02-26T04:09:53","slug":"joann-will-shutter-all-of-its-800-u-s-stores-conduct-sales","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/imsfund.com\/index.php\/2025\/02\/26\/joann-will-shutter-all-of-its-800-u-s-stores-conduct-sales\/","title":{"rendered":"Joann Will Shutter All of Its 800 U.S. Stores, Conduct Sales"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Craft and fabrics retailer Joann, which has been in business for the past 80 years, announced it is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/02\/24\/business\/joann-stores-closing.html#:~:text=Joann%2C%20the%20fabrics%20and%20crafts,financial%20tumult%20for%20the%20company.\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\">closing all 800 of its stores<\/a> in 49 states and going out of business following a period of financial turmoil and low sales.<\/p>\n<p>The company has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2025\/02\/24\/joann-fabrics-closing-all-stores-bankruptcy\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\">19,000 employees<\/a>, 15,600 of whom are part-time.<\/p>\n<p>Joann filed for bankruptcy in March 2024, going from a publicly traded company to a private one while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/joann-bankruptcy-filing-stores\/\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\">reporting<\/a> between $1 billion and $10 billion in debt. The company filed for bankruptcy again earlier this year, then stated that it would close <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/boston\/news\/joann-fabric-store-closings\/\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\">500 of its locations<\/a> and keep about 300 open as it tried, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/business\/business-news\/joann-shutter-800-fabric-stores-find-buyer-locations-rcna193536\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\">failed<\/a>, to find a buyer to keep it in business.<\/p>\n<p>Assets were auctioned off on Friday. According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.prod.website-files.com\/67817680c8de2134544a40cd\/67bb41d2ff81f49ddc0c825f_Company%20Statement%20on%20Winning%20Bidder.pdf\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\">news release<\/a>, the financial services firm GA Group was selected as the winning bidder. As part of the agreement, GA Group will shutter the company&#8217;s operations, choosing to shut the doors of all 800 Joann stores.<\/p>\n<p><b>Related:<\/b> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/which-macys-stores-are-closing-new-list-announced\/485436\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\">Macy&#8217;s Just Released the List of 66 Stores Closing This Year \u2014 Here&#8217;s Where<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Joann leadership, our Board, advisors and legal partners made every possible effort to pursue a more favorable outcome that would keep the company in business,&#8221; the statement read. &#8220;We are committed to working constructively with the winning bidder to ensure an orderly wind-down of operations that minimizes the impact on all our stakeholders.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Joann <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joannrestructuring.com\/\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\">stated<\/a> that going-out-of-business sales would start immediately at all locations and online, with the timeline for store closings still unclear. According to the company&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.prod.website-files.com\/67817680c8de2134544a40b6\/67bce6a61afcb33225323364_Customer%20FAQ.pdf\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\">customer FAQ<\/a>, store closure dates will be disclosed &#8220;as soon as possible&#8221; and the company expects to take &#8220;a number of weeks&#8221; to complete its final sales.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" class=\"lazyload\" loading=\"lazy\" role=\"presentation\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.entrepreneur.com\/images\/misc\/1740519017_Joann-GettyImages-2199406379.jpg?width=1000\" style=\"height:739px; width:1000px\" width=\"1000\" height=\"739\"\/><sup><i>A Joann store in Miami, Florida. Photo by Joe Raedle\/Getty Images<\/i><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>Crafters and designers took to X to express their sadness that Joann was closing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Joann is the reason I was able to have a small part of my life be that of a designer\/maker,&#8221; one X user <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/KathrynHenzler\/status\/1894169352494002251\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\">wrote<\/a>. &#8220;It was the only accessible fabric store for millions of people. I&#8217;m gutted.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Another X user <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/copperthimble\/status\/1894157280456692145\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\">wrote<\/a> that it was &#8220;a dark day for crafters&#8221; while yet another <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/bejeweledpaige\/status\/1894200508140704181\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\">stated<\/a> that &#8220;the world is feeling increasingly devoid of inspiration and community.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Sewist Julie Muniz presented a different take, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/juliemuniz_joann-is-going-out-of-businessand-people-activity-7300210870368747520-2qE1?utm_source=share&amp;utm_medium=member_desktop&amp;rcm=ACoAAEX6goEB2tL-TT1GOWv7IHKjJQsUAsiyhck\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\">writing on LinkedIn<\/a> that shopping at Joann was &#8220;more of a necessary evil than an inspiring experience&#8221; and that &#8220;relying too heavily on a niche market and not heavily enough on customer loyalty and experience does not bode well for a lasting legacy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p>Joann is the reason I was able to have a small part of my life be that of a designer\/maker. It began calling itself Jo-Ann Fabrics in the 1960s, then eventually <a href=\"https:\/\/cactusladycreation.com\/blogs\/news\/the-boom-and-bust-of-joann-here-s-how-it-all-fell-apart?srsltid=AfmBOoqM-mh5noIuTNcqODV6-Qyp0pstrbuCOXGXdLray4r0w4ZzhkYe\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\">Joann<\/a> in March 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Joann isn&#8217;t the only store to recently shut its doors.
