{"id":15446,"date":"2025-03-18T05:51:55","date_gmt":"2025-03-18T05:51:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/imsfund.com\/?p=15446"},"modified":"2025-03-18T05:51:55","modified_gmt":"2025-03-18T05:51:55","slug":"the-workday-is-shorter-but-productivity-is-up-new-study","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/imsfund.com\/index.php\/2025\/03\/18\/the-workday-is-shorter-but-productivity-is-up-new-study\/","title":{"rendered":"The Workday Is Shorter, But Productivity Is Up: New Study"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>In 2025, the traditional &#8220;9 to 5&#8221; is looking a little more like an &#8220;8 to 4.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>ActivTrak&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.activtrak.com\/resources\/reports\/state-of-the-workplace\/\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\">newly released 2025 State of the Workplace<\/a> report found that the average American workday is ending at around 4:39 p.m. and starting at around 8 a.m. Meanwhile, the report notes that two years ago, people weren&#8217;t leaving their desks (or home offices) until around 5:21 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These are healthy numbers,&#8221; said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.activtrak.com\/blog\/author\/gabriela-mauch\/\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\">Gabriela Mauch<\/a>, the head of ActivTrak&#8217;s Productivity Lab, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-03-11\/half-past-four-is-the-new-five-o-clock-in-more-efficient-workday?srnd=homepage-americas\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\">per Bloomberg<\/a>. &#8220;We&#8217;ve adapted to a traditional workday on average while offering flexibility and fluidity in a way that meets employees where they are.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><b>Related: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/jamie-dimon-says-rto-complaints-come-from-the-middle\/488345\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\">JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon Says Only One Group Is Complaining About Returning to the Office<\/a><\/p>\n<p>ActivTrak looked at data on nearly 200,000 employees working at 777 companies, tracking workplace behaviors from productivity bursts to clock-out times. The data revealed that productivity has gone up by about 2%, and employees tend to work in productive 24-minute bursts.<\/p>\n<p>The months with the most hours worked (around nine a day on average) were August and December. Mauch noted to Bloomberg that August was due to a post-vacation work rush and December because of the end-of-year push. February and October, meanwhile, had the shortest workday lengths (8 hours and 35 minutes), according to the report.<\/p>\n<p>And despite the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/verizon-tries-to-recruit-talent-from-att-after-rto-mandate\/487595\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\">major return-to-office push<\/a>, the report found a big win for fully remote employees: They are the most productive workers.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Remote-only workers have the highest daily productivity (+29 mins) vs. other worker types,&#8221; the report notes.<\/p>\n<p><b>Related:<\/b> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/living\/task-masking-how-employees-retaliate-against-rto-mandates\/487258\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\">What Is &#8216;Task Masking&#8217;?
