{"id":16069,"date":"2025-05-08T22:03:16","date_gmt":"2025-05-08T22:03:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/imsfund.com\/?p=16069"},"modified":"2025-05-08T22:03:16","modified_gmt":"2025-05-08T22:03:16","slug":"ibm-ceo-ai-replaced-hundreds-of-human-resources-staff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/imsfund.com\/index.php\/2025\/05\/08\/ibm-ceo-ai-replaced-hundreds-of-human-resources-staff\/","title":{"rendered":"IBM CEO: AI Replaced Hundreds of Human Resources Staff"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Former employees at IBM were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/fiverr-ceo-says-ai-will-take-your-job-heres-what-to-do\/491198\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\">replaced with AI<\/a>, the company&#8217;s CEO confirmed earlier this week.<\/p>\n<p>IBM CEO Arvind Krishna told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/ibm-ceo-says-ai-has-replaced-hundreds-of-workers-but-created-new-programming-sales-jobs-54ea6b58\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\"><i>The Wall Street Journal<\/i><\/a> on Monday that the tech giant had tapped into AI to take over the work of several hundred human resources employees. However, IBM&#8217;s workforce expanded instead of shrinking\u2014the company used the resources freed up by the layoffs to hire more programmers and salespeople.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Our total employment has actually gone up, because what [AI] does is it gives you more investment to put into other areas,&#8221; Krishna told <i>The Journal<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>Krishna specified that those &#8220;other areas&#8221; included software engineering, marketing, and sales or roles focused on &#8220;critical thinking,&#8221; where employees &#8220;face up or against other humans, as opposed to just doing rote process work.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><b>Related: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/ibm-says-7800-of-its-roles-could-be-replaced-by-ai\/450852\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\">IBM Exec Says 7,800 Jobs (or Nearly 30% of Its Workforce) Could Be Replaced By AI<\/a><\/p>\n<p>IBM CTO Ji-eun Lee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cio.com\/article\/3968783\/ibm-agent-ai-in-direct-use-delivers-3-5-billion-in-productivity-impact.html\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\">said<\/a> earlier this year that IBM&#8217;s AskHR agent had automated 94% of simple, routine human resources tasks, like vacation requests and pay statements. Meanwhile, IBM&#8217;s AskIT agent reduced the number of calls and chats for the IT team by 70%.<\/p>\n<p>IBM saw a &#8220;productivity improvement&#8221; of $3.5 billion over the past two years by using AI in more than 70 business areas, Lee stated.<\/p>\n<p>IBM did not disclose when the HR layoffs and subsequent hiring in other departments occurred. The company employed 270,300 workers globally as of its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ibm.com\/downloads\/documents\/us-en\/1227c12d3a38b173\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\">2024 annual report<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" class=\"lazyload\" loading=\"lazy\" role=\"presentation\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.entrepreneur.com\/images\/misc\/1746725659_Krishna-IBM-GettyImages-2198340101.jpg?width=1000\" style=\"height:667px; width:1000px\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\"\/><sup><i>IBM CEO Arvind Krishna. Photographer: Christopher Pike\/Bloomberg via Getty Images<\/i><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>This week, IBM held its annual Think conference and introduced new products and services to grow its generative AI division, which has become a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/tech\/ai\/ibm-generative-ai-business-f3bf8203\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\">$6 billion business<\/a>. Here&#8217;s What They Are and How Much They Cost.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Krishna has worked for IBM for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/arvindkrishna\/details\/experience\/\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\">over 34 years<\/a> and stepped into the CEO role in 2020. Wedbush analyst Dan Ives told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/ibm-stock-price-ai-arvind-krishna-wall-street-ives-wedbush-2025-5\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\"><i>Business Insider<\/i><\/a> on Wednesday that Krishna was in the process of transforming IBM into an AI company.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s still the first inning in a nine-inning game,&#8221; Ives told the publication.<\/p>\n<p>Krishna isn&#8217;t the first CEO to say the company has replaced people with AI.<\/p>\n<p>Klarna CEO Sebastian Siemiatkowski stated last year that its AI chatbot did the work of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/klarna-says-its-ai-assistant-does-the-work-of-700-people\/470405\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\">700 customer service agents<\/a> and later announced that the company was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/klarna-replaces-workers-with-ai-with-hiring-freeze-pay-bump\/484348\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\">undergoing a hiring freeze<\/a> and filling in the gaps with AI.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff said in September that the company&#8217;s new AI agents <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/salesforce-ceo-ai-agents-could-replace-hiring-gig-workers\/480177\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\">could replace gig workers<\/a> during busy seasons.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/ibm-ceo-ai-replaced-hundreds-of-human-resources-staff\/491341\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former employees at IBM were replaced with AI, the company&#8217;s CEO confirmed earlier this week.
