The compensation consisted mainly of the stock options and equity awards Taneja received in October 2024 because of his promotion to CFO in August 2023. It also included a base salary of around $303,000, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/ix?doc=\/Archives\/edgar\/data\/0001318605\/000110465925042659\/tm252787d2_10ka.htm\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\">an April 30 filing<\/a> with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.<\/p>\n<p>In comparison, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/how-much-does-tesla-pay-internal-salary-data-compensation\/482715\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\">median base pay<\/a> for a Tesla analyst is $93,000, with median stock grants of $20,000. Here&#8217;s Why.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>His compensation beat the previous record set by Kim Brady, who received $86 million in pay in 2020 as the then-CFO of electric truck company Nikola. Brady retired from the role <a href=\"https:\/\/www.freightwaves.com\/news\/amid-financial-peril-nikola-changes-cfo\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\">in March 2023<\/a>. Nikola has recently encountered financial difficulties, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/02\/19\/nikola-chapter-11-bankruptcy-protection.html\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\">filing for bankruptcy<\/a> in February after failing to raise additional funds or secure a buyer.<\/p>\n<p>Other CFOs in comparable companies were less highly compensated. Microsoft, which belongs to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/nvidia-returns-are-staggering-but-concerning-expert\/476904\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\">the Magnificent Seven<\/a> group of high-performing tech companies along with Tesla, awarded its 53-year-old CFO, Amy Hood, around <a href=\"https:\/\/www.erieri.com\/executive\/salary\/amy-hood-8tgr\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\">$25.8 million<\/a> in compensation last year. Another Magnificent Seven company, Meta, compensated its 39-year-old CFO, Susan Li, around <a href=\"https:\/\/www1.salary.com\/FACEBOOK-INC-Executive-Salaries.html\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\">$23.6 million<\/a> in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Taneja received more compensation in 2024 than his boss, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who was not paid for his work last year. Musk&#8217;s $56 billion compensation package was first approved by shareholders in <a href=\"https:\/\/ir.tesla.com\/press-release\/tesla-announces-new-long-term-performance-award-elon-musk\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\">2018<\/a> and depended on Musk leading Tesla to hit a series of revenue, market cap, and operational milestones. Musk achieved the targets, but has not received his pay after a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/why-elon-musk-isnt-getting-a-record-high-pay-as-tesla-ceo\/483789\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\">Delaware judge determined<\/a> last year that the compensation was unfair to shareholders. In the first three months of this year, Tesla&#8217;s net profits <a href=\"https:\/\/ktla.com\/news\/tesla-profits-fall-by-70-amid-backlash-tied-to-elon-musk\/\" rel=\"follow\" target=\"_self\">plunged by 71%<\/a> to $409 million compared to the same time last year. Tesla&#8217;s revenue also fell 9% to $19.3 billion, and its deliveries dropped 13% to 336,681 cars.
