The meeting leaked on Wednesday when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/amazon-whole-foods-grocery-boss-slams-ridiculous-bureaucracy-2025-6\"><i>Business Insider<\/i><\/a> obtained a recording of it.<\/p>\n<p>Amazon&#8217;s Vice President of Worldwide Grocery and Whole Foods CEO, Jason Buechel, responded to the employee&#8217;s concern by characterizing internal bureaucracy as &#8220;ridiculous&#8221; and saying that Amazon is trying to speed up processes in several areas, like spending approvals. In September, alongside a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/amazon-ceo-this-is-why-employees-must-work-in-office-rto\/482473\" rel=\"\" target=\"_self\">return-to-office mandate<\/a>, Jassy introduced a &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aboutamazon.com\/news\/company-news\/ceo-andy-jassy-latest-update-on-amazon-return-to-office-manager-team-ratio\">bureaucracy mailbox<\/a>&#8221; for employees to submit examples of where they saw unnecessary processes or rules at the company. By November, that inbox had received <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/amazon-ceo-explains-why-he-wants-fewer-managers-hate-bureaucracy-2024-11\">more than 500 emails<\/a> and Amazon had acted on more than 150 suggestions.<\/p>\n<p>Jassy also announced in September that the company would eliminate excess layers of middle management by the end of March. Amazon <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/heres-what-amazon-is-doing-to-cut-down-on-middle-management\/486381\" rel=\"\" target=\"_self\">achieved this goal<\/a> by pausing the hiring of new managers, demoting some managers, and requiring existing managers to increase their number of direct reports.<\/p>\n<p>At a leaked <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/amazon-ceo-says-rto-mandate-not-backdoor-layoff-2024-11\">all-hands meeting<\/a> in November, Jassy said that &#8220;one of the reasons&#8221; he was still at Amazon was &#8220;because it&#8217;s not a political or bureaucratic place.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The reality is that the [senior leadership team] and I hate bureaucracy,&#8221; Jassy said at the meeting.<\/p>\n<p><b>Related:<\/b> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/heres-what-amazon-is-doing-to-cut-down-on-middle-management\/486381\" rel=\"\" target=\"_self\">&#8216;I Hate Bureaucracy&#8217;: Leaked Internal Amazon Document Reveals How the Tech Giant Is Cutting Down on Middle Management<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Amazon has laid off more than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/01\/29\/amazon-cuts-some-jobs-in-its-communications-sustainability-units.html\">27,000 employees<\/a> since 2022 to cut costs, and recently conducted layoffs in various departments. The retail giant cut dozens of jobs in its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/amazon-layoffs-impact-books-division-goodreads-kindle\/492910\" rel=\"\" target=\"_self\">Goodreads site and Kindle division<\/a> earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>Amazon&#8217;s grocery business faced layoffs earlier this week when the company laid off <a href=\"https:\/\/mynorthwest.com\/local\/amazon-fresh-federal-way\/4102888\">at least 125 employees<\/a> who worked in a Fresh grocery store in Federal Way, Washington.
