He said a widespread financial crisis where an adversary uses AI to launch an attack on the U.S. The bad actor could &#8220;break into financial systems and take everyone&#8217;s money,&#8221; and there would be little we could do about it, Altman said. According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/banks-ai-cybersecurity-threats-hackers-generative-ai-2025-3\">survey<\/a> released in March by consulting firm Accenture, 80% of bank cybersecurity leaders state that AI allows bad actors to launch attacks faster than banks can respond. In other words, the leaders <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/banks-admit-that-they-cant-keep-up-with-ai-scams-study\/488330\" rel=\"\" target=\"_self\">can&#8217;t keep up<\/a> with the rapid pace of AI scams targeting personal bank accounts.<\/p>\n<p>Consumers reported losing more than $12.5 billion to scams in 2024, a 25% increase from the previous year, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ftc.gov\/news-events\/news\/press-releases\/2025\/03\/new-ftc-data-show-big-jump-reported-losses-fraud-125-billion-2024#:~:text=The%20FTC%20received%20fraud%20reports,halt%2C%20and%20deter%20consumer%20fraud.\">Federal Trade Commission<\/a>.
