It also asks for &#8220;elegant lighting.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Plans for the office were first disclosed in an August 2024 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sec.gov\/Archives\/edgar\/data\/829224\/000119312524200724\/d848513dex101.htm\">U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing<\/a> outlining Niccol&#8217;s compensation package. The filing stated that Starbucks would begin planning to establish a &#8220;small remote office&#8221; in Newport Beach and &#8220;employ an assistant&#8221; for Niccol of his choosing.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This office location will be maintained at the expense of the company,&#8221; the filing reads.<\/p>\n<p>Starbucks told <i>BI <\/i>that other employees can use the new office, though it&#8217;s unclear how many other employees will be working from the office, how long the space took to construct, and how much it cost <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/starbucks-reveals-secret-menu-contest-for-best-custom-drink\/494640\" rel=\"\" target=\"_self\">Starbucks<\/a> to build.<\/p>\n<p><b>Related: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/how-much-8-top-ceos-got-paid-in-2024-jpmorgan-disney\/486184\" rel=\"\" target=\"_self\">Here&#8217;s How Much 8 CEOs Made, From JPMorgan&#8217;s Jamie Dimon to Disney&#8217;s Bob Iger<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Starbucks also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/starbucks-new-ceo-can-make-over-100m-in-first-year\/478557\" rel=\"\" target=\"_self\">awarded<\/a> Niccol a $1.6 million base salary, a $10 million signing bonus, and a $75 million equity grant over the next three years in his compensation package.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" class=\"lazyload\" loading=\"lazy\" role=\"presentation\" src=\"https:\/\/assets.entrepreneur.com\/images\/misc\/1753821466_Brian-Niccol-GettyImages-476543176.jpg?width=1000\" style=\"height:801px; width:1000px\" width=\"1000\" height=\"801\"\/><sup><i>Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol. Photo by Robin Marchant\/Getty Images<\/i><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>Niccol had previously been commuting at the company&#8217;s expense, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/starbucks-ceo-to-commute-by-private-plane-to-hybrid-office\/478805\" rel=\"\" target=\"_self\">flying 995 miles on the company&#8217;s private jet<\/a> from his home in California to company headquarters in Seattle, Washington, to work from the office at least three times a week as part of the company&#8217;s return-to-office mandate.<\/p>\n<p><b>Related: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/starbucks-is-hiring-a-coffee-obsessed-content-creator\/493042\" rel=\"\" target=\"_self\">Starbucks Is Hiring a &#8216;Global Content Creator&#8217; to Travel, Drink Coffee, and Get Paid Six Figures<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, Niccol sent a <a href=\"https:\/\/about.starbucks.com\/press\/news-blog\/\">letter to employees<\/a> stating that corporate staff will be required to return to the office four days a week starting in October, an increase from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2023\/01\/11\/starbucks-orders-return-to-office.html\">three-day schedule<\/a> set in 2023. Under his leadership, Starbucks has tried to turn around <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/starbucks-to-simplify-menu-fix-pricing-after-sales-drop\/481773\" rel=\"\" target=\"_self\">slumping sales<\/a> with a &#8220;Back to Starbucks&#8221; turnaround plan that has resulted in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/starbucks-is-cutting-13-drinks-from-its-menu-next-week-list\/487608\" rel=\"\" target=\"_self\">cuts to its menu<\/a>, less <a href=\"https:\/\/qz.com\/starbucks-ceo-brian-niccol-coffee-menu-pare-down-retail-1851690763\">wait time for coffee<\/a>, and customers&#8217; names <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/starbucks-wants-to-turn-things-around-with-sharpies-mugs\/482207\" rel=\"\" target=\"_self\">written on cups in Sharpie<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, Starbucks also <a href=\"https:\/\/s203.q4cdn.com\/326826266\/files\/doc_financials\/2025\/q3\/SBUX-06-29-2025-Exhibit-99-1-1.pdf\">reported financial results<\/a> for its 13-week fiscal quarter ending June 29. Global store sales dropped 2%, with North American store sales also falling by 2%, marking the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/07\/29\/starbucks-sbux-q3-2025-earnings.html\">sixth consecutive quarter<\/a> of declining sales.
