He stepped down in 2000 to focus on being a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/franchises\/the-role-and-responsibilities-of-a-franchisee-defined\/425547\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">franchisee<\/a> full time, scaling from 35 stores to 96 today.<\/p>\n<p>His signature <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/franchises\/transforming-in-house-talent-into-business-owners\/466040\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">program<\/a> is letting managers, supervisors and executives buy minority stakes in the restaurants they run.
