These candidates have worked at prestigious firms and gone to top schools, but beneath the accolades are human beings who have trained miniature dachshunds and worked on \u201cperfecting restaurant-quality scrambled eggs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The goal is to make a hiring manager sit up and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/recent-college-graduates-who-want-their-first-salaries-to-go-far-should-focus-on-these-u-s-states\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">take notice<\/a>. They should think, \u201cYes, this is somebody I\u2019d like to be in the trenches with at 3 o\u2019clock in the morning on a deadline,\u201d Reder Sheikh, a partner at recruiting agency Major, Lindsey &amp; Africa, told the <em>Journal<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sheikh added that more than half of the legal associates she matched with jobs last year had a hobbies section on their resumes, an increase from just a few years ago. Now the section is making a comeback.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-why-people-are-talking-about-it-now\">Why people are talking about it now<\/h2>\n<p>The topic of including hobbies and interests became relevant earlier this year, when a post on X, which the poster has since deleted, went viral.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI reviewed a resume that listed \u2018olive oil\u2019 as an interest,\u201d the anonymous poster wrote, per <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/olive-oil-resume-interest-hobby-recruiters-2026-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Business Insider<\/a>. \u201cThat is not an interest. It\u2019s been hours and I cannot stop thinking about it. There will not be an interview.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some X users claimed that the reference was quirky and unique, while others said it could have benefitted from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/gen-z-cares-about-career-growth-more-than-salary-and-work-life-balance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">adding more detail<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ey.com\/en_us\/people\/fredric-cibelli\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fred Cibelli<\/a>, a New York-based technology principal at EY, told the <em>Journal<\/em> that interview conversations can benefit from a subject beyond the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/business-news\/gen-z-workers-can-make-34400-a-month-interning-at-this-wall-street-firm-and-housing-is-free\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">usual talking points<\/a>, provided the applicant meets the role\u2019s core qualifications.
